wetsuit review
« on: July 13, 2009, 04:34:10 PM »
I recently bought a new Elite Red 5mm wetsuit. This is my first open cell wetsuit. I previously used a 7mm farmer john scuba suit. The problem I was having with that is even in the cold waters around here I was burning up while wearing it. So after coming into a little money, I went to the Freedive shop and bought a new suit. Elite is a newer company started up by Alessandro Picasso.  The suit is great, it is super stretchy, all the seams are sealed on the inside and comes with kneepads. Coming from a scuba suit to this it feels like you are not even wearing a wetsuit. I spent 4 hours in the water and never got cold, infact I had to flush with water every so often to cool off. I am a human oven though. The only thing that might have problems later on is it uses Velcro to hold the flap up instead of snaps like some other suits. I am very satisfied with the suit.
here is the website for Elite, but it is in Italian.http://www.picasso-elite.com/traje-neopreno-mimetical.php

Sounds like your good to go!! You cant beat the open-cell suits. I sweat my butt off in my Yazbeck. I too have to flush water in it to cool off.

open cell suits don't have the the fabric lining on the inside like on the outside. you have to lube up with soap or something similar to put open cell suits on to avoid tearing or riping. not having the lining helps the suit stick to your skin not letting water flow through. you can genrally wear a thinner suit and stay as worm as a close cell suit. The neoprene is also a lot softer and stretchy. The difference in mobility is huge between the two types of suits at least between a 7mm closed cell and 5mm open cell, but that is just my experience. I am definitely glad I spent the money on an open cell suit.

You should seriously call Josh at Neptonic.

My Spetton suit has wear pads on the knees and elbows and the standard [chest] loading pad.  I can't wait to give it a go in the sea trials.
