(Vid added) FII Level 1 class with Red Triangle
« on: November 12, 2015, 12:05:36 PM »
Spent last weekend taking the Level 1 class with Matt Lopez and Kris Cortez.

First day was classroom work, followed by a pool session.

Second day was out in the ocean.

I learned WAY more than I was expecting to, and was super impressed at the emphasis on safety and rescue techniques. I also had a really good time, and the whole atmosphere was fun and relaxed and I really enjoyed making some very cool new friends.

I dove down to a new personal best of 69 feet, and got a personal best bottom time of 1:45 seconds and a personal best static breath hold in the pool of 3:24 seconds.  :smt007

Feel so much better about my weight/buoyancy, breathing up process, entry and finning technique, and about my understanding of how to dive as safe as possible and how to help my buddy if there is an emergency in the water.

I was also super impressed at how hard Matt and Kris both worked to keep all the members of the class safe, encouraged, and under constant supervision.

I took some GoPro footage on Sunday that I will work on editing and uploading when I get a chance.

If you have been considering taking a class, or working on improving your freedive skills I HIGHLY recommend Matt and Kris as instructors.

Thanks again guys!

 :)

Sincerely,

Jim

++1  I thought I was a safe diver but this class opened my eyes!  I definitely feel more comfortable and relaxed with the techniques and confidence we picked up last weekend.  Now if the swell would just relax on my days off so I can use it to hunt!

Thanks,
Jeff

Dove yesterday and was already trying to put the techniques to work.

Will take a bit to re-train my brain about some habits I have but already feel that I am moving in the right direction to be a safer and better diver and hunter.

Jim

I so agree.  I was practicing some of what I learned yesterday and feel the best I have ever felt in the ocean.

+1^ I feel like this is one of those things where I have trouble justifying the price (I want to bring my son and daughter) and also finding the time is keeping me from getting it done, but when I finally do it I will wish I had done it sooner.

Happened to be before with lasik. I would pay double and do it multiple times if I knew then how much better my life would be.

Little vid I made of some of the drops.

You can see Annie disappear into the murk at the very end for her deepest dive.

Great job Annie!!!!
