There is no good answer to that statement, but about 20 bad answers came to mind immediately.

Considering how few people get in the water in Humboldt compared to other counties, it's an interesting statistic.
If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.  –Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Humboldt has quite a few surfers around here. This past Sunday I had the landlord checked me and buddy out on the kayaks in Trinidad.

My buddy's kayak is 15ft and he was easily that big. It was the girth of the thing that hit home. Its face grey white pink gums coming my way keeps playing in my head. It found some interest in a crab bouy that's when we split.

There's been a Humboldt bay north jetty resident the past few years so that's where I'm thinking it came from but who knows.

I'm not sure where or what time you were in the water but I seen a big dorsal fin Sunday. We were fishing from a boat on Sunday out of Trinidad.  We had just finished pulling in the crab pots just outside of the bay and were on our way back in. I seen it between the bell and prisoner rock at about 8:30-9:00am. Once we were closer to the ramp I seen two guys getting out of the water back on to their yaks. Both guys had camo suits on, tied off to a kelp bed. This may have been you.

That wasn't me I'm in a Hobie and my bud Brandon was in a trident 15.   I seen those guys on the water too and told them about it on the beach.  It was just after 9 when it happen between the whistler and blank rock.
