2015 Fresh Water Nationals in Wyoming June 4-6

2015 U.S. Spearfishing Nationals Presented by:
Rocky Mountain Spearfishing Association
 June 4th-6th, 2015
The events will consist of:
 Mandatory meeting/briefing June 4th, 2015 6:00 p.m. mst
 Spearfishing competition June 5th and 6th pre-dive briefing 8 a.m. start diving 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. mst
 Awards banquet following weigh-ins Saturday.
 All events based out of Keyhole Marina.
 Location: Take exit 165 towards Pine Ridge Rd. 5 miles down Pine Ridge Rd. turn left towards marina.
Keyhole Reservoir, Pine Haven, Wyoming.
Event headquarters will be at Keyhole Marina (Subject to change).
All meetings/briefings and awards will take place at Keyhole Marina (Subject to change).
Weigh-ins will be conducted at Keyhole Marina docks.
 The entry fee for the two person teams will be $100.00 until April 1st, 2015. After April 1st entry fee becomes $150.00 per team.
 Includes Nationals shirt and Dinner.
Dive Area/Boundaries:
The whole lake is open to the competition. Besides in designated swimming area south of marina, and within 100 yards of boat ramps, docks and spillways. You may dive from shore, boat, or kayak.

o Game Fish Competition begins – pre-dive briefing 8 a.m.
mst, start diving 9 a.m. Must have cooler with Ice.
o Competition ends 3:00 p.m. mst
o Must be checked in at weigh ins 3:30 p.m. mst
o Fish Fry of days Fish ---------------------- 5:00 p.m.
 June 6th 2015
o Rough Fish Competition begins - pre-dive briefing 8 a.m.
mst, start diving 9 a.m.
o Competition ends 3:00 p.m. mst
o Must be checked in at weigh ins 3:30 p.m. mst
o Dinner/awards at ---------------------- 5:00 pm mst
 All teams will consist of 2 competitors
 Teams may be made up of men/women/mixed pairs or juniors.
 There will be 2 individual divisions: Pro, and Women’s/Juniors (
16 and under)
 Freediving and scuba can both be done for spearfishing
Diving conditions:
 Water temp. 60-70 degrees
 Visibility 5-20 feet
 Depth 5’- 45’ best diving for fish
 Bottom will consist of various sandy/rocky/small pebble areas,
ledges, submerged and standing timber throughout the dive
 Air temp 62F degrees – 80F degrees (average temp is 75°F)

 Team awards and individual awards will be presented.
o top 3 teams will receive cash prize
o top 5 individuals will receive trophies
o biggest game fish will receive a trophy
o biggest rough fish will receive a trophy
o Raffle to win various other prizes
o Sponsored prizes & $$ will be awarded. (TBD)
 Rough Fish - Point per fish, Point for pound. 50 fish max.
 Game fish – Will be scored the same, but given 3x the credit for the overall meet.
 All participants will sign an assumption of risk waiver at pre-dive briefing June 4th, 2015.
 All Wyoming game and fishing, boating and spearfishing regulations must be followed at all times.
 Wyoming fishing license is required and can be purchase on or at any licensing agent (ex. Keyhole Marina, Walmart, Rocky Mountain Discount Sports).
 As per Wyoming Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) law all boats must carry a Wyoming invasive species permit, available anywhere you can purchase fishing license or online at and undergo a AIS inspection (Will arrange for a game warden to do so at park for convenience of participants).
 Fish may be taken by underwater spearfishing equipment in lakes or reservoirs only.
 No person shall use any underwater spearfishing equipment to take game fish under water without obtaining a fishing license.

 No game fish may be taken unless the underwater spearfishing equipment and fisherman are completely submerged.
 All spears used on spearfishing equipment shall be attached to the spearfishing equipment with a lanyard with a maximum length of twenty (20) feet.
 Underwater spearfishing is not permitted within one hundred (100) yards of any designated swimming or water ski areas, boat dock, ramp or spillway.
 A diver’s flag shall be displayed on the water when diving or underwater spearfishing. It shall be a rectangular flag that is either blue and white in color (alpha flag) or red in color with a white diagonal stripe (diving flag), not less than twelve (12) inches x twelve (12) inches and displayed no less than three (3) feet above the surface of the water.
 The entire lake is open to competition, Except in the designated swimming area south of the marina, and within 100 yards of boat ramps, docks and spillways, See Lake Rules
 Divers need to have own float/flag and stay within 100’ of it.
 The limit on walleye taken by spearfishing equipment shall be two (2) walleye per day or in possession
 Consumption of alcohol by contestants during tournament hours is prohibited.
 No Chumming or Diving on Chum.
 Any violation of state or tournament rules or laws results in immediate disqualification.
 2 person limits allowed to be weighed in, keep your fish separate from each other.
 Only 1 fish weighed for largest categories per day per person.
 All fish weighed for combined weights each day.
 Any infraction of the tournament rules and regulations.

 Diver caught discarding any fishing including excess fish in the water. Bring all carp back to removal trailer.
 Divers catch, or portion thereof, breaking any existing State/Game law.
 Trading / giving fish among teammates
 Trading / giving fish between other divers.
 Verbal/physical abuse of any tournament official or contestant.
Fish Species Allowed:
 50 Rough fish (Carp) per person.
 2 Walleye per person.
 3 Smallmouth (State law allows for 6, only 3 will be allowed for the tournament)
 6 Channel Catfish
 20 Freshwater Drum and Pan Fish, in any combination. (Pan fish: Crappie, Yellow Perch, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Green Sunfish, Green Sunfish-Bluegill Hybrid).
Fishing Licenses:
 Resident Annual Fishing License $24.00
 Resident Daily Fishing License $6.00
 Resident Youth Fishing License (between 14th & 18th birthday) $3.00
 Nonresident Annual Fishing License $92.00
 Nonresident Daily Fishing License $14.00
 Nearest towns: Pine Haven (Pop. 496) Located on lake, Moorcroft (Pop. 1,024) Located 13 miles from lake, Gillette (Pop. 32,000) located 40 miles from lake.

Keyhole Marina rents both runabout and pontoon boats.
