The site does not have " Thread started by XXX ". That makes it difficult to go over your posts 772 and find out which on the reports.
Can you links the two reports ?

I know a handful of guys that have pulled plenty of 10's and even some 11's out of marin county. Some of the heavy guys that were pioneering mavericks back in the day would take their jet skis up there and dive off of them occasionally.

So far I have only dove there once, no trophies. Viz was maybe 2-3ft and brown even though it was flat, you couldn't see the tips of your fins. The structure was incredible, huge boulder fields and black holes that went so deep who knows what could have been lurking in the backs of them. It was really creepy with the low viability. The abs were random, one crack would have a 6", the other would have a 9 7/8", and the other would have an 8".

The fish on the other hand were great, I shot a ling just a hair under 20lbs and a 6.18lb grass rockfish. Also, my dive buddy shot his pb ling and china cod.

Overall what I took from the experience was that the diving in Marin is great, both for fish and abs. However, given the constant low visibility, unexplored territory meaning it could take years of diving the area to find the real good spots, and just overall creepiness of floating on the surface there, it's probably worth the extra hour or two up to the sonoma coast.

ive gotten a few from the potato patch , i wouldn't recommend diving there unless unless you can handle a mavericks grade hold down . the patch is just about the furthest south you will find them but its legal all the way to the north anchorage of the GG but they are very sparse because of the fresh water from the bay

Phil,

I don't know about diving the south area of GGB.  Regs say

29.15. ABALONE.
(a) Open Area: Except in the area described in
subsection (a)(1) below, abalone may only be taken
north of a line drawn due west magnetic from the
center of the mouth
of San Francisco Bay.

Sorry to sound like jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjeremy here.
