Speargun advice
« on: November 09, 2009, 02:44:13 PM »
I would like to know if this is a quality gun and fair deal: JBL 38" (I think) sawed off magnum with three bands for $300. The area of operation will mainly be hole hunting.
Thanks,
Tim

My 38 custom was only 125.00 out of the box brand new. The only way I would pay 300 for a jbl is if it swam down and got my fish for me :laughing7: :laughing7:

It must be the mahagony wood and being brand new that make  it so expensive, which is odd in that Scuba.com is usually very reliable with competitive prices?

Tim,
The Mahogany is the lowest end of the wood offerings. The other versions are Teak and Padouk (sp?). The higher end woods make the gun run for $300 and up. If you're just starting out, you don't need the more expensive woods. The mahagony's look great and last forever any way! Besides, if that Whittman chick becomes Governor we won't be having any more spearfishing in this state!

Spear pole?  Let's not get too fancy--it wasn't that long ago that I used to use a frog gig on suckers in the Kaweah river.  I can't make it to the dive this weekend.  I would like to buy a new gun.  Thanks for the advice.  I look forward to meeting all of you one day.
