Monterey Bay Tritons present 2013 Triton Open

2013 Triton Open

The Monterey Bay Triton's will be hosting their annual spearfishing event on April 13th in Monterey CA.

This is going to be a great event, as we have established a new venue in Monterey and we have partnered with a great local charity to donate our fish too.

We look forward to a great event and hope that you can come and take the time to support our club.

Monterey is a great place to dive and a good challenge as well.

Details will be posted right here to keep you all in the loop.

The Triton Board is making every effort possible to support the Monterey area and for 2013 the board has connected with a local charity to enjoy and accept donated fish from each participant. This should be a great year and we really appreciate being part of our charity's success.

Here is a short and sweet report from the dive. Jason and my self and a couple of other buddies hit the sign in table at the 2013 Triton open hosted by the Monterrey Bay Triton dive club and registered and then hit the road to SWS. Once there could tell we would be stuck in side the cove but that is not a bad thing that place can be good every where. Once out on the water we could see that it was a hazy 20ft great great, it had a decent wind chop and was windy as hell but doable.
 We all hunted from about 930 to 1pm and then headed in. I will say it was a desert as for fish. I have never seen SWS so barren of fish. I ended the day with my 10 rock fish and 1 small ling.In all a great day with good buddies and any time on the water is a good time.
 Here is a pic of the plaques I won. I took 2nd place in the experienced  div and tied for biggest ling of comp with Alex Renyold, with a 3.95 pound ling that gives you an idea how tough it was for fish, it was a tough day for all every one but all managed to get fish but nothing special, hey it is about the hunt and time in the water not the results.
 Thank you to the MBT for hosting this fun event also would like to thank Greg and Vanessa and the free dive shop for sponsoring the raffle table at this event with some awesome prizes.

Here is a follow up report to the event, this write up was done by Alex Reynaud;

The Triton Board would like to thank everyone for showing up and being part of our club event. The Board has been working hard to make the Triton Open more enjoyable for everyone and we believe that the new format and hosting location is here to stay. Which means next year will of course be better!!

The Board has partnered with the Monterey Outreach Plus Program, who is a local charity that supports family's in need of assistance. This year the Triton Event donated roughly 50 lbs of fresh fish and after the event fileted everything up for them. We will continue to make every effort to support this group as they are providing a valuable service to the Monterey area.

A special thank you to the Freedive Shop for supplying their scale and supporting our club with a great raffle. Over the past 4 years, the Freedive Shop has provided an enormous level of support to our club, and besides being wonderful people, are just the kind of support the spearfishing community needs. Thank you again Greg and Vanessa.

We do not know how that happened we think it was the Triton's way of messing with him for shooting all those 25 pound lings in there back yard LOL
