2011 Pacific Coast Championships. No scout, no DOUBT!!!
« on: August 16, 2011, 01:08:06 PM »
Okay, you like a family oriented dive/ camping weekend??? San Simeon Campground, Cambria is where the PCC is going to be based.
DATE: Saturday, September 24, 2011.

This is a really fun meet, and for the first time in a LOOooonnnggg time, we will have Tshirts and hoodies for the meet!

It is a secret locale meet, no scouting, no homefield advantage. (Well, a lot less advantage!)
Rules and regs to come.

Everyone starts from the staging area, enters in the same spot, and then exits from the same spot. I suppose you can go as far as you like on a kayak; divers have been known to travel as much as 5-6 miles from the staging area.

Some CenCal divers might have a few spots they can reach from our area within this 5-6 mile radius. But there is no GPS allowed, so the diver would need to rely on landmarks to find the spot (Like the old days).

The impetus is to focus on quick thinking, raw fish finding ability, and hard diving. I think people will pull down some catches they will be amazed by.

Here is a copy of the print that Tyson Curtis created for us. (Seawolf here on SB.) He is a Fathomier, and has previously done a couple other really nice artistic renditions for us.
This is a reduced pixel copy so it can fit the page. This will be the back of the shirts and hoodies.

This is a Google Map of the location where we camp at San Simeon State Park.

Here is more on it that RICK one posted on Freedive Addict NOT MY WORDS

Hosted by GLACD.

This year's PCCs will be a no-scout meet, meaning the exact launch where the competition will be announced the day before. The dive site will be staged somewhere out of San Simeon or Cambria. The no-scout meet was decided on to promote more attendance and level the playing field, so to speak.

Details have not been released yet, but generally, the event starts at 9am, and you must be back in for weigh-in's by 3pm.

20 fish meet, with 1 point per fish, 1 point per pound. Eligible fish must be over 14", or respective DFG size limit. No eels, sharks, rays, or mola molas.

Teams consisting of 3 divers. Winning team automatically qualifies for nationals @ Albion next year, if I'm not mistaken.

No GPS allowed.

T-shirts/hoodies available for purchase at event.

Cost is most likely going to be $15 per diver, and must be CenCal and USOA member (15 each)

Looks like a fun competition. The fact that it's a non-scout meet opens it up quite a bit. You can expect the usual species from this, including rockfish, perch, lingcod, and sheephead. Depending on the dive spot, depths can range from 20-75 feet. I've heard the sweet spot is 35-60 feet, usually. Great red hunting from what I've heard. Kayaks are a must.

Update:
They are allowing individual as well as team divers. Cost is $15, only pre-registration is available.

9am to 3pm. Must be in staging area by 3pm or DQ.

1 point/fish, 1 point/pound. Max 20 fish. Minimum 14", or 18" for sheephead. No more than 3 fish per species, except only (2) lingcod, (2) cabezon, (2) sheephead may be entered.
