Sonoma Coast Conditions
« on: July 30, 2010, 10:44:00 AM »
I made the drive to the Sonoma Coast yesterday in hopes to do a little spearfishing.  The ocean was about as flat as it gets.  There were no swells to speak of and the water was like glass.  The visibility was a whole other story.  I could tell that the water was pretty dirty but i was not sure how dirty.  So I drove up to Salt Point (gerstle cove) To get a better look.  I parked my truck and boat and walked over to the cliff above the cove.  It was really bad.  Those of you that don't know Gerstle Cove, it has a little sandy spot at the foot of the cove.  It is a decent spot to gage vis and I would have to say that at that location it was no better than 2'.  The plankton bloom is still really heavy.  Hopefully it will clear by the reopener of Ab season.
