For those of you who know the Luiz family, you know them as Rob, Jess, Mackenzie, and Valerie.  You also know them as the most beautiful, loving, and generous family.

On June 7, 2019 our beloved friend, husband, brother, son, father....Robert Luiz, passed away in an accident in La Paz, Mexico while he was doing what he loved--spearfishing and free diving.

In honor of his memory and in effort to care for and provide for his family, we are starting this fundraiser.  Please donate what you can, anything will be appreciated during this difficult time for his 2 baby girls and loving wife.  Funds will go towards his funeral and service, and support to his family.

Oh man! So sad! So sorry for the family. Rob was a great guy. Hung out with him at several dive events and dove with him once. Very kind, selfless, helpful and open with sharing his knowledge as a diver. Dive safe everyone. RIP brother.

  • There's definitely a fish under THIS rock....
This is definitely really sad. Leaving behind 2 kids.... I can't even imagine the depth of their loss.

He consistently gave knowledge to the community and left a fantastic reputation behind...

RIP Rob (Sir Rob IV)...

I'm really grateful for the support people are showing via GFM page.

So sad....

Rob's sister in law sent me a message asking if I could help get her a contact list of his diving/spearing buddies...if you want me to pass along your info to her just PM me your name/email/phone number.

I have already gotten quite a few through FB/IG/Text and have passed those along already.

Sincerely,

Jim

  • Know your limits, but never accept them
Rob was a great dive buddy and one of the most caring guys I knew. He's the type of guy that would give you random phone calls just to see how you were doing. My heart goes out to his family. Love you man may you rest in peace.

Sir Rob IV is one of the first channels I subscribed to when I first started Spearfishing and Freediving a few years ago. I never met him in person or knew him personally, but from what I've seen and read about. I'm certain that he was an awesome man as well as a highly skilled Spearo. This really hits home because like many of us, he loved doing what we all love to do. May he rest in peace and my heart goes out to him and his family. Rest in Peace Rob and thank you for passing on the knowledge and tips you gave to new and upcoming divers such as myself.

Hi everyone,

Jessica and her family are overwhelmed by your love, kindness, and generosity.

If you are interested in attending the memorial and celebration of life, please see the details below:

Memorial: Friday, June 21 at 12:30pm
Location: Coast Guard Island
1 Eagle Road
Alameda, CA 94501

Celebration of Life: Friday, June 21 at 3:00pm
Location: Lungomare Restaurant
1 Broadway
Oakland, CA 94607

IMPORTANT!! Please note that the family has asked that people dress casual. If you are a Coast Guard, you may come in uniform, but otherwise, Robert's wishes (and the family's wishes) were for people to dress casual (board shorts, flip flops, sun dresses, etc). Suits are not necessary.

ALSO IMPORTANT!! Please DO NOT wear spearfishing clothing or anything with spearfishing paraphernalia. The family does want you to share stories at the celebration of life, but they don't want to see spearfishing logos or images at this time.

Please fill out this Google form so we have your contact information and can update you with details: https://forms.gle/ZcJTeSChGB56grSV7

Here is a link to the Facebook event where we will post updates as well:
