The fish is most secure with it through the eyes. Just make sure you stringer is secure. I've seen a fish swim of with my buddies before.

you mean wallet, make sure your wallet is secure if you got a striper on your stringer.

I used to put it through the eyes because it’s probably the most secure.

Now I string them up through the gills and out the mouth. They seem to rid better on a kui that way, and they hang better on a hoop stringer. When they lay better on the stringer I find it easier to flop the whole bunch into the tankwell.

On big Ling Cod, with a kui, I poke the spike through the bottom of the outside of the mouth and string it out the mouth. I do this just to avoid the gill rakers snagging on my gloves.
