I wonder two things,

1- do they think they're going to have to go all the way to the beach so they're not volunteering because of the super long paddles all day.

2- would a prize of some kind help?  $500 drawing for just those that do the kayak support. Could be one $500 winner or 5 $100 winners.

on further reflection, we'd have to enter crushers too or no one would volunteer to crush.

My guess is they are pretty busy prepping for the big NCKA kayak fish comp the week after the urchin dive. As for cash prize thing I say no all funds are desperately needed for urchin removal and if a prize thing was done it is not fare to leave the divers out and the all the volunteers that are also helping, boat support, crushing and so on.

There is a possibility I will have to be out of town that weekend.  So instead of volunteering and then backing out I will have to wait until closer to the event before knowing for sure if I will be able to participate or not.

I am sure I am not the only one who can’t commit just yet so hopefully it all works out.

As much as I'd like to dive, I can def just kayak... I'm guessing we will be able to talk divers into splitting their day from diving and kayaking. Like if we did a numbers thing where if you're an even number, then you kayak then dive and if you're odd then you dive then kayak.

I have a Hobie pedal drive.   I'll just be kicking it. Yes pun intended. Haha.. Anyone is more than welcome to cruise in it while I fill a few bags..

I will sure to provide Kayak support with on Saturday and maybe on Sunday.
If my wife joins the trip I will bring a Hobie Tandem otherwise I will bring a single kayak.
I will also bring a small megaphone for the event coordinator use.

I've put the word out to monterey bay kayaks and to monterey bay free divers - both are on board for bringing volunteers so there is a confirmed extra 5-6 people plus the owner of MBK (adam) said he will notify his 45 person team of the need so I expect a few more from that. I'll ask him if he can spare some kayaks and a kayak trailer for the event and I can tow them up behind the RV. I'll just have to keep a close eye on them.

I am a little confused on the whole kayak thing. My soft bottom zodiac  is rated for 1200 pounds( including me and my 30hp outboard) . Matt's RIB should be close to double that.    A few trash cans evenly distributed should be ok especially with the high tide entrance.
Are the kayaks for transporting from shallow water to the  boats?  My zodiac can go into pretty shallow water depending on swell and visibility.  I know the RIBs have a deeper and more vulnerable hull so they are limited to about 10 feet if there are no pinicals or sharp currents.

But I plan on crashing at Joes campsite for the weekend unless i have to work.
