DOTY 2018 reminders, DQ's, pictures, rules etc.

I feel Jims pain. One good weekend of conditions and the entries are flooding in. Its awesome to see everyone participating and fun to watch the board constantly changing. Here's the board so far.

Please make life easier on me and Duane if you can. A lot of entries are including a single picture that can be a strain to try and zoom in to verify. The more the better. At least one overall and one close up of the tail would be great. Remember the mouth needs to be closed. You can have your fingers wherever it takes to close it for the picture as long as there is no obvious lip pulling or smashing them together hard to gain extra length.

Scallops

The rules state both shells must be visible in at least one picture. This is a no go.

Using that same picture as an example- Please use a straight edged item such as a knife to mark edges. An upside down bowl shaped scallop could have a lot more apparent length by holding the camera close.

This is a go but took some extra work and messages to make sure where the marks began on the trough since the first number isn't visible. Multiple pictures really help little issues like this.

Strong work, keep it up. Lets not let Rob L win.  ;D

That was an impressive scallop even though half of it was a barnacle.

Opposite of a pull. I smooshed its lips into the board.

And no. Your scallop was the least bothersome one. Besides being half barnacle.
Not a single barnical,  just a really odd shaped shell growth and a lot of tube worms.

Just messin with ya. Can’t wait to see it cleaned up.

So we know the real size.

 :)
Thats the reason im woried about cleaning it, but i practiced on a 6" one and  it turned out pretty good with hardly any shell getting brittle,
Your just jealous  because i got a scallop that was basicaly 8"s bigger than your trophy  from last year,  hahaha

Nah he's really just talking shit on himself. I challenge any of you to find a scallop like mine. I'd bet money that it's far easier to get an 8.5 than a .5 hahaha

did you eat it? lol

No. Sadly my dog ate it. I was going to have it mounted.  I think it’s still the record for smallest DOTY entry.
I will give you credit because i have been looking  when i see a small cluster and havnt seen one less than an inch,

werent you cleaning boats while hooka diving so that would be a DQ

I passed along my feedback on rules/issues to Gio and Duane before I stepped down. 100% up to them on how they address these issues now.

 :)

Sincerely,

Jim

At first I wasn't going to say anything when I saw my fish got rejected:

http://doty.norcalkayakanglers.com/catches/2958

It's OK, I made a small mistake and sure I was butthurt for a minute but I just told myself I'll shoot a bigger one this year..its only February..But then I saw this and I don't understand how it's not lip pulling. The lips are pinched forward and the gills are flared up.

http://doty.norcalkayakanglers.com/catches/2935

Gio I'm sorry to single your fish out, but maybe you have some photo examples of fish that are what you consider a lip pull/DQ? Because I'm going to maybe start turning my fish in like how yours are. Not trying to get huffy and puffy over this in any way, just want to clear it up.

That was one of the first fish for the year and me and Gio were trying to figure out how to keep from disqualifying quality fish.  I happened to be there on the day he shot that Verm and I measured him out of curiosity before I left and can confirm it’s length.  There was some serious rigor which didn’t close its mouth with the eye socket method.  Most of the time you can make that work but this wasn’t one of them.  We had the discussion that I have had fish rejected for a similar hold even though I swore I only slightly pressed the lips and didn’t pull or stretch per the rules.  As far as I know no one likes DQ’ng fish.  I don’t.

So we agreed to allow a light closing of the lips since we didn’t actually change the rules to say it wasn’t allowed.

We want this to be fun but I even made a post saying text or PM one of us if there is a question on pics and most of the time we can get to it pretty quick in case it’s a fish you can’t easily replace.

This is why we were asking for multiple pics so if one wasn’t clear maybe another will have a better angle or focus.
