I'm burned out on NorCal fish
« on: October 19, 2017, 08:45:21 AM »
Does anyone have some unique recipes for ling or rockfish? I still like shooting them, but most of them get given away after every dive. Looking at ling and rockfish as table fare aren't even appealing anymore. I'm tired of fish and chips, baked over rice, fish soup, and fish tacos.

Still loving yellowtail. Endless possibilities of sushi with it but I feel like there isn't anything different or new to try with NorCal fish.

Start targeting octopus or Halibut and you can spread out the time between eating RF and lings.  Or just move to So Cal or Mexico until you get tired of their fish.

This thing happens.
I thought the same about RF, then I catch salmon all of a sudden my mind changes. Salmon is the best fish so far, then I start to catch more salmon I eat 3-4 times a week. now I get tired of salmon.
If you stop eating RF for a couple months, you will love it again.

This happens to lobsters and crabs too.

My wife swears she won’t get tired of lobster so I guess I better plan some more trips.

True.  I've never had too much lobster, but went gangster on some crabs last season to the point of getting sick of them.  Never thought that was possible, but too much of anything will do it I guess.

Have you tried using the RF/Lings for your sushi recipes? After freezing...not sure how texture would be...haven't froze RF or Lings in years...

Or ceviche...

I did some sheep smoked the other day and while it didn't turn out perfect I think my buddy and I can tweak the recipe and make it pretty good...could try smoking RF/Lings/Cabs as well?

With bigger RF or Lings or cabs the collars grilled kama style and dipped in a ponzu sauce is a refreshing change...

I've also been taking the scaled belly meat of bigger Verms and lightly breading and frying...sounds weird but turns out really good...

With a few of the butts I got this year I did them piccata style with a recipe fuzz gave me and it was super easy and they turned out really good...

Or just switch it up like folks said above and maybe you'll get your taste back for it?

Sincerely,

Jim

Don’t you have to actually be able to shoot one first?
Ouch.

Don’t worry Ryan you are seeing the Verm now.  Come on up and we can target the reds for a day.

I'm always looking for new creative recipes.

Below are some things I have been experimenting with lately and looking for recipes:
  • Smoked ling, RF or abalone. Spicy / peppered or sweet.
  • Ling / rock fish sushi rolls (Cooked fish).
  • Various RF/Ling pastas
If anyone has any recipes along the lines listed above post em' up!

Lingcod and scallops mixed in fetechini Alfredo is killer, crab works well also
