Octomask with GoPro mount
« on: April 15, 2016, 08:44:59 AM »
Has anybody used this mask? I think it would be fun to start shooting more GoPro footage. Is this a good mask? I know there is also a GoPro mounting attachment. Any other options?

Thanks,

why not get this one and add it to the mask you already have,

I just recently started using this one and I really like it, especially like the fact that I did not have to get or use another mask.

Thanks Matt. Does it stick to the glass? Does it stay on well? The pictures are nearly indecipherable.

the mount is "upside down" in the photos.

the flat side is where the stock gopro mount would slide in and the mount is attached to the mask by drilling, bolting, and sealing with GOOP.

I can attest to the mask holding up after mounting and sealing - works great and doesn't get in the way, with or without the gopro being mounted

Thanks guys. Not sure how eager I am to drill into my mask.
I'll think about it.

Any chance you can post some pics of it so I know what I'm doing?
Thanks!

I have the octomask and it is a nice mask better than I thought it would be. Works well with gopro but kind of tough tightening the go pro to the mount but once you get it snug works great.

Andrew, I use this.

http://www.makospearguns.com/Dive-Mask-Go-Pro-Mounting-Clamp-p/dmgpmc.htm

It's worked perfectly for me. No drilling necessary, though your mask has to have a frame that is separate from the skirt. I do have a small section of line running from the camera to my mask strap (as shown in the photo), just in case the clamp fails. That hasn't happened yet in the two years I've been using it.

My dive buddies and I all have mounts that we have glued to masks. We take a dremel and sandpaper to one of our extra gopro mounts to get a nice flat surface and then glue it to the mask. In version 1 my buddies used superglue, then epoxy to seal. Those have started to fail and I used J.B. Weld for mine which I am much more confident in.

I like this approach because you can place the gopro where you would like... One friend likes his camera to the side, as far over as he can get it. I like my camera dead center on my mask. I'll take a picture when I get home if I remember.

To update this, my JB Weld experiment failed. It seems the regular JB weld I used takes on water. I now have some JB Weld marine epoxy which I'll try out. Superglue is too rigid and will start to crack when repeatedly stressed, so I think some type of epoxy will be a better solution. Just need to find the right one.
