Official DOTY Results
« on: January 06, 2017, 03:11:23 PM »
Sorry this is a little late...I have been on the road in New Orleans and NYC and am home now but have flu so am still just limited to my phone and fat fingers.

Anyway, it was a VERY close finish to 2016 DOTY and when the dust settled Rob Luiz aka Sir Rob IV came out on top!!!

Rob had an epic year and dove HARD in some very nasty conditions, got some monster fish, and for the first time in DOTY history was able to beat out a competitor with more species of fish than he had...great stuff!!

Rob also had the biggest Sheephead, Olive and Kelpy of the year!

Rob will win an amazing Piscean Plaque and a brand new Jackson Kayak Kraken 13.5.

Huge Congrats Rob!!!!

Second place was claimed by Duane G. aka DG who led for a lot of the year and had one of the only three halibut taken in this years comp.

DG also had an outstanding year and finally got his very first  Sheephead ever and also biggest Cabezon, Black Rockfish, Copper and Scallop!!

DG will win a custom framed Amadeo print, and a brand new 85 quart Orion Cooler.

Congrats Duane!!!

Third place was taken by Steve A. aka Lorikay2.

Steve also had one of the year's few halibut, but was unable to seal the deal at the end.

Steve got some very impressive fish including a beautiful 29 inch male Sheephead!

Of special note is that Steve also saved the life of fellow DOTY player Thomas when he blacked out while diving earlier in the year.

Steve will also get a custom framed Amadeo print, and will get first pick from the prize table.

Great job Steve!!!

Following Steve we had:

4th: Yowlie
5th: ttwwaattaa
6th: Sean Otter
7th: BigJim
8th: Verm
9th: dogpaddle
10th: reefstalker

Our top Junior this year was young Josiah Ventura aka josiahVentura808, and top female was Star Argo aka 5tarfish.

Both had epic years, and I especially enjoyed watching young Josiah racking up firsts and personal bests while out diving with his Dad Wasen!!

Leaderboard here:

Biggest fish (will each get a killer plaque) here:

Congrats again to all and thanks for playing!!

And...

The new DOTY 2017 board should be up and running soon.

I am working on making sure we get plaques/prints/prizes in time for awards which look like they will be on 2/11 at a central location to be announced.

For me it was a pretty cruddy DOTY performance to be honest...and my worst score and placement in the 5 years that we have been playing...

BUT, several moments do stand out...

In April I dove with my good buddy fuzz and found out on the way down to the spot that he was gonna be a daddy!! Was so excited for him, and was looking forward to an epic day of fish murder.

However, it was ROUGH when we got to spot and even fuzz "struggled"...I was ecstatic when I was able to drop down to 50+ feet and found my second biggest Verm ever hovering in an alcove.

After shooting my adrenaline load on the Verm I spotted fuzz chasing Verms down at 70+ and after he got two we called it quits and made our way back to car.

Probably the only day ever that I got a bigger Verm than fuzz!    ;D

Another great memory was diving on a FAC day with my good buddy Andrew and finding a school of BIG black Rockfish...while bigger blacks are common up North they are usually much smaller down here in Monterey County.

My biggest of the day turned out to be a new PB for me, and my only 200 point fish of the year...I also got two nice Verms that day, one of which was my 3rd biggest ever at 20.75 inches:

My two most memorable fish of the year were not DOTY fish, but am excited about chasing them this year and seeing how myself and other DOTY divers like the new rules for 2017!!

Sincerely,

Haaaahaha me and my one little scallop.

Bigger than mine in 2016!  :'(

BTW, that scallop makes me officially the winner of the smallest fish award for 2016...my second time with that dubious honor...this was my 2012 "winning" entry:
