lazyhook:
I would expect so.

I haven't seen that particular style with the sort of 1-way, self-locking mechanism.  But, that basic setup with a buoy and a ring is pretty standard for boats without a winch.

For that matter, I've even seen some more DIY versions that used a milk crate and ring.  Whereby, the milk crate acts as a horizontal drag force when pulled through the water rather than a lifting/buoyancy force from a buoy (which also provides quite a bit of horizontal drag forces).

You liked my find that much, huh? lol

I know for a fact that it does indeed work. It was recommended to me by more than 1 commercial fisherman. A lot of them use these things on their small boats.

The only inconvenience is making sure that the rope used is the right diameter. If you're thinking of it for crab traps, the Promar line that's available everywhere (and most other easy to find, cheap lines) are 5/16" diameter. That particular device I found needs 3/8" line. For anchor line, no big deal. For crab line, the price is much higher.

Abaloneo thought up a pretty cool mod for it.

Rob102:
I don't think it'll work if you anchor on the rocks, Matt.

MATT MATTISON:
Pete I thought it was worth posting, rob you are probably correct.
