Title: speargun bands?
Post by: JASON HOLLIDAY on July 18, 2009, 10:21:11 PM
I have always used the basic bands with the steel spines. I just recently went to bamboo reef in rohnert park and they had the bands with the flexable steel brade. Whats the pros and cons to the new style versus the old? Im not sure if i want to buy what is a sure thing or try something new.

I have not used the ones with the steel brade.  I have used the flexable nylon? dacron? ones.  They tend to trap my fingers against the gun and the shaft when I load the gun. It could be the way I load the gun though.  I have another gun that has the solid stainless wishbones and I have not noticed this problem with the steel wishbones.

My old scubapro gun had the solid stainless wire wishbones, but all of my guns now have homemade bands so I use the dyneema or spectra(not 100% sure which one) wishbone material.  I did buy a riffe gun 2 years ago and the bands are getting pretty trashed so I need to address that soon.  Do you guys with riffe guns just buy bands or make your own?

Thanks for all the info I think I will just stick with the wishbone style. Also I finally broke down and switched from the rope line to a trident coil band so I can attach my flashlight and not have the rope banding get in the way...

Dont forget it makes it quicker for reloading so you can get that next shot off.

I get bulk rubber, wishbone material and whipping twine from Neptonic to tie my own bands. http://www.neptonicsystems.com/ (http://www.neptonicsystems.com/)

Cheap and easy.
