Title: Any interest in a NCUH lobster boat charter this year ?
Post by: MATT MATTISON on August 16, 2019, 12:15:17 PM
I was thinking it would be really cool to get a good group together this lobster season and charter a whole boat to go to Santa Barbra Island for lobster ? NCUH lobster trip !

how many of us would be into something like that ? as of now not even sure on pricing and available dates, but wanted to ask and see if there were enough folks interested in it ?

the season runs from Saturday, September 28, 2019 through Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

and does anyone have any preferred boats they like or want to recommend ?

Would be interested too, but also depending on dates.  I've been on a liveaboard diving trip with Truth Aquatics from Santa Barbara, and thought it was a good boat.  We should also be able to combine the lobster diving with spearfishing.

I'm also interested, but depends on the dates among other things.  I had a good experience with the Peace boat, but it's the only one I've tried.

I'm for sure interested. Are you thinking a one day or multiple day boat trip? Peace Boat? They run out of Ventura.

My free time is going to be extra tight for the rest of the year, but I'm interested. This is totally new for me. When is the best/most productive time of year for lobster?

Eric Bowman (Peace Captain) does trips for Scuba and free dive lobster. You're also welcome to spearfish. I brought my gun with me on lobster dives and got a couple enormous sheeps and white fish last nov.

Ok sounds like there is enough interest. What boat do you all want to go on?  Also once we have a few boats picked out I will call and get pricing and dates

well I emailed the peace boat and here is their November and December schedules, as for September and October they are all booked already so what dates we want to do ? I am thinking lets make this  3 day trip, we are looking at charting the entire boat which can fit up to 22 dives comfortably. I am waiting to hear back on a price to charter the whole boat so that will dinnertime the price per a diver total cost dived by how many divers sign u and pay

ok here are some more details looks like we are looking at $10,800 to charter the whole boat

Their email to me

$9800.00.  This would include all meals and non-alcoholic beverages (we do not have any alcohol onboard, but you are welcome to bring your own if desired), scuba tank air fills and 2 night dives 1 on each evening and topside divemaster supervision.  We aim to do as many dives as is reasonable for your trip.  Some groups are fast and can end up doing 6 scuba dives in a day, some groups are slow and we do less.  Of course the free-dives are longer than a typical scuba dive.  Our meals are pretty hefty and suit those that are diving frequently really well.  We have some sort of meal or snack in between all dives, so you will not go hungry.
Please note that there would be an additional $1000 fuel surcharge for trips to San Clemente, Cortes and/or Tanner Banks.
Our boat can sleep 28, but 16 would be in double bunks.  Most of our hunting trips usually run about 20-22 divers, so that there is extra space on the deck for all of the gear and ice chest for the fish.  You would charter the entire boat, so it is up to you how many people you put on up to our max of 28.

pricing depending on the amount of divers
cost $10,800 if we have 20 divers that would be a cost of $540 per a diver for the 3 day trip
cost $10,800 if we have 15 divers that would be a cost of $720 per a diver for the 3 day trip
cost $10,800 if we have 10 divers that would be a cost of $1080 per a diver for the 3 day trip

I saw we try for the 15 or 20 person trip that brings the price down to a manageable level.

I need your input all and please look at the pictures in above post for potential dates

I have been on the Peace Boat about 8 times and I can say they are very good at keeping everyone well fed on good food! It is a very spacious comfortable boat. The crew is very helpful on every part of the trip and especially helpful managing divers entering the water, bringing in fish, etc.

My only issue with it is they limit you to 1 or 2 night dives, that is BS that is when the best bug diving happens and I am use to be able to dive all night on the Sand Dollar Dam I miss that boat !!!

yup the more I think about this and the only 1 night dive rule I am not into doing this on this boat, sorry but night diving is the best time to dive for lobster and to pay $11,000 and be told we are limited to one night dive is bull shit, so i am out on this unless we find a better boat that allows more night dives, someone else can feel free to take over the lead and work with the peace boat but I am out
