Title: Saturday Van Dam Urchin Removal?
Post by: CaExplorer on January 09, 2019, 12:21:54 PM
One of my clients mentioned there was an urchin removal event this Saturday at Van Dam. Can anyone confirm or provide additional info?

Cheers,
Chris

They could definitely use the help!

Family friendly, rain or shine, easy volunteer options whether you're diving, kayaking or doing shore tasks.

Hope you can make it!

Good question. Perhaps the holidays got in the way. I've seen it on NCKA, Fbook, Insta, etc.

Its been posted on facebook, sorry I should have mentioned it here earlier.
I highly encourage everyone to come out. The state up'ed our daily bag limit to 40 gallons, which works out to 40 game sacks once they are crushed.  To my knowledge I'v been the only one to get the previous limit of 20 sacks and am hoping to hit the new limit on Saturday.
Van Damme is very protected so even with the larger swell on saturday we should all be able to dive.
The last couple events have been really lacking in freedivers, there is alot of us out there and this is our chance to do some good.
Rumor has it there will be two different film crews out there covering this event and this is our chance to show that we care about the ecosystem which has been destroyed by these purple kelp killers.
Mendocino Volunteer Fire Dept will be out again with our jetskis to help anybody that needs it.
Diver meeting is at 8am Saturday.  Hope to see you there.

If anyone is jamming up from the Santa Cruz area and has room for one more, i am game!  My car has been acting funky lately, not wanting that tow bill if it shits on me.

*snip* The state up'ed our daily bag limit to 40 gallons, which works out to 40 game sacks once they are crushed.  *snip*

I thought it was still 20 gal volume and they were rulemaking for 40 gal volume February 6, 2019.
