Title: Gift Ideas - Ab/urchin/Scallop Shells
Post by: Creatura on November 27, 2018, 10:21:31 AM
Hey all,

Family is doing one of those, homemade gift exchanges this year.  Anyone have any cool things they have made with there old shells, or seen made with old shells?  I was thinking of the some old classics like a soap holder / shaver holder / ect.

Thanks all!

That sounds doable!

Anyone know what paint would work best with the shells?

Or do the extra work to make it a keys/change holder.

I have taken deeper ab shells and made a succulent hanging planters.

Drill a 1/2 inch hole in the bottom for drainage.  Drill 3 small holes equally spaced around the rim and thread copper wire to a single point a foot or so above the shell.  A layer of sand and small gravel then cactus planting mix and drop a couple succulents spaced nicely.

Hanging in the shade they do pretty well with minimal care.

Earrings or necklace.  You have to cut and polish them [use a good/appropriate dust mask].  You can get the parts to make earrings or necklaces from places like "You Bead It".
