Title: Plz help MPAs
Post by: apeaenlightened on June 19, 2017, 11:31:06 PM
Hey guys so I get the part where if it's red such as the picture below it's restricted and fishing/taking any wild life is prohibited and I get how the blue is regulated . But what about the areas not marked down?! Like the one I have marked down on my map?! Or any other place on the map not marked down?! Are these fishable I'm sorry if it seems like a stupid question but I'm new to this and would hate a misdemeanor.

Thank you all for your replies in advance(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170620/51334c0880dfd4df6c579404cb2eb12a.png)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170620/50c77a78beb69f282fc0a3914a2cfdc3.png)

The only controlled areas are the ones on the MPA map. Anything not shown follows the typical rules for that region in the DFG handbook, so you still need to follow the general limits (species restrictions, size limits, bag limits, etc.) for the region you are in (Northern, Mendocino, San Francisco, Central, Southern).

Regs are at http://www.eregulations.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/17CASW_LR2.pdf (http://www.eregulations.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/17CASW_LR2.pdf)
Sometimes there are mid-year changes, this is often related to crab/mussel or tuna. This year's are at https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Regulations/Inseason (https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Regulations/Inseason)

The unmarked areas are fishable. Just a heads up, if you are looking to go South of Carmel, you can't due to the bridge collapsing from landslides and another massive landslide recently that covered a quarter mile of the road.

Don't feel embarrassed or like it's stupid to ask about them. Even ask again about a specific spot if you're unsure. It may save you from a hefty fine, and or the embarrassment of accidentally taking something illegal from one. Someone once took me to a spot they said was "great from taking urchin." I didn't check and it turned out to be an mpa.

Thank you wildernessmedic i ones had that happen to me gigging for fluke luckily we got caught by a security so we handed over a couple of fluke and he kicked us out hehe. But definitely could have been a lot worse than.

It's weird I just now saw that. My phone wasn't picking up the closed roads but thank you sir Rob IV I'll definitely keep that in mind I do know I have to take a trip up north soon the vis looks better than down south
